Employee development is a priority at BASF-Finlay and a learning culture is created through the nomination of employees for local and overseas training and the grooming of future leaders through constant analysis of employee strengths and weaknesses. An open door management culture together with many team building activities has helped BASF-Finlay live up to its values and principles.

A highlight of 2005 was BASF-Finlay undertaking the co-ordination of a multi-donor housing project for victims of the tsunami, supported by BASF Aktiengesellschaft of Germany, BASF companies in the region and BASF employees. Having analysed the extent of damage along the tsunami-hit coastal belt, the Company observed that Ampara, in the East, which was one of the worst affected areas, was not receiving adequate housing support, mainly due to its distance from the Capital. Families in Mandane, a village in Tirukkovil, were identified as the beneficiaries of 196 two-bedroomed houses, each of a floor area of 506 sq. ft. The project was carried out in partnership with Habitat for Humanity - Sri Lanka.
