CSR Policy and Initiatives
The commitment of the Company to Corporate Social Responsibility is derived from our corporate ethos of caring and service. The Company believes in silent but effective interventions in areas identified by us as worthy of assistance. The underlining principle in our CSR activities is in line with the
Swire motto "Esse quam videre" -"To be, rather than seem to be ".
The Company has decided to focus it's efforts on two aspects of the UN's Millennium Developments Goals namely gender equality and care for the environment.
Among other CSR initiatives carried out by Finlays were the following;
The Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital renders valuable service to society by providing long term care and orientation to persons with permanent impairment to their spinal cord. As a public institute they are finding it difficult to obtain some important and basic requirements of the hospital. Finlays, came to their assistance by upgrading ward number 5, dedicated to young women suffering from injuries to their spinal cord.

Free Mosquito Treatment to Vauxhall Street Residents:
| |
The Pest Control Division of the Company has extended free mosquito treatment to deserving organizations in the past. |
| |
This year it was decided to focus on the Vauxhall Street in Colombo, a densely populated area where hygienic living conditions are not met in most households. |
| |
As monsoons were about to commence the dry spells between sporadic rains could provide ideal conditions for mosquito breeding. Before another outbreak of dengue it was decided to carry out treatment of the entire area.. |
| |
This was supported by posters and educational campaign on prevention of mosquito borne disease. The response and cooperation from the residents proved to be highly encouraging. |
