Finlays - First in Asia to Install

Worlds latest Tea Bagging Machine arrives in Sri Lanka
The worlds leading tea bag machine manufacturer Industria Macchine Automatiche (IMA) of Italy, and Finlays Colombo PLC are pleased to announce the arrival and installation of the worlds latest tea bagging machine, the IMA C 27 in Sri Lanka. The high-tech C27 Tea Bagging Machine was launched in April 2005 at the Interpack in Dusseldorf and James Finlays became the first company in Asia to purchase one.

The C27 has the ability to produce up to 250 tea bags per minute and is based on a traditional non heat-sealable double chamber bag (flow thru type), that guarantees optimum infusion efficiency enabling the natural tea aroma to flow out. Other advantages of using the C27 machine include high process control, high flexibility and versatility, reduced maintenance and spare part consumption, and easy maintenance.

All these, together with the added benefit of producing 100% fully natural tea bags utilizing a knot technology (also referred to as the stapleless technology), make the C27 the most advanced tea bagging machine available in the market at present. IMA Sales Manager Alessandro Sereni in a media statement said that since it’s launch, IMA has sold in excess of 15 of the new machines world wide and continues to receive numerous inquiries from the global industry. He said that this demonstrates the increasing trend of the market turning to fully natural and environmentally friendly products.

Based in Bologna, Italy, IMA is the undisputed global leader in the manufacture of tea bagging machinery with many offices worldwide. The company is highly proactive towards global market trends and firmly believes in the traditional concept of flexibility combined with the highest product quality using the most advance technology. IMA is also the forerunner in the knot technology, the breakthrough innovation which completely negates the use of metal staplers on tea bags. IMA has been represented in Sri Lanka by Finlays Colombo PLC. since 2002.

Established in 1893, Finlays Colombo PLC is a leading player in Sri Lanka’s tea industry for well over a century. The company’s modern beautifully landscaped tea processing factory which is ISO 9001 – 2000 and HACCP certified is situated in Welisra. Finlays rank amongst the top 10 exporters from Sri Lanka of value added tea and is the largest shipper of tea bags to the highly sophisticated and discerning Japanese Market. Today the company is one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates with diversified interests amongst which are Environmental Services, Healthcare, Insurance, Air Line GSA for Cathay Pacific Airways, Temperature Controlled Warehousing. Finlay’s Agencies Division in addition to representing IMA also represents other global packaging giants specialising in packaging materials for the tea industry. Amongst them are Ahlstrom - USA for Tea bag Paper, Nikol Weber - Germany for Cotton Thread and Garmco - Bahrain for Aluminium Foil. Finlays also has a tie up with BASF - Germany to warehouse and distribute Industrial and Agro Chemicals.

Speaking to the media, Business Development Manager of Finlays Mr. Ravindra Ratnapala stated “IMA customers can now enjoy superior after sales services through Finlay’s skilled team of engineers who have been specially trained at the IMA head office in Italy. These skilled personnel will guide customers through every step of the tea bagging process. This new product will really revolutionarise the tea bagging industry in Sri Lanka.”

The C27 machine will be on display at the Finlays Tea Processing complex during the 2nd week of July. Please feel free to contact Lasantha on 4725283 for more details.

Three flights a week, operating as CX703, will go via Bangkok every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, departing Hong Kong at 18.35 and arriving in Colombo at 00.15 the next day. The return CX700 service departs Sri Lanka at 01.45, arriving in Hong Kong at 12.10.

Cathay Pacific Director Corporate Development Augustus Tang said: "We are very pleased to be able to resume services to and from Colombo. Cathay Pacific suspended its operations to Colombo in April 2007 due to security concerns. The airline did a thorough audit before making the decision to resume flights and is confident that new security measures in place at Colombo airport meet the airline's exacting safety requirements.

Cathay Pacific will add 10 flights a week to Delhi and six flights a week to Mumbai by 30 March. In addition, it will launch Chennai as a destination on 1 June, with four flights a week, while sister airline Dragonair will begin a daily flight to Bangalore on 1 May.
