The Tea Warehousing arm of Finlays, launched in 1997, provides storage facilities for the produce of most of Sri Lanka’s major tea plantation companies participating in the Colombo Tea Auctions. The modern Tea Warehouse offers a dedicated service employing the latest technology. The fully automated procedure at the Warehouse ensures quality of produce, through minimal handling and safe storage.
The priority of the Tea Warehousing operation is ensuring the sustainability of its relationship with its business partners, by delivering the best standards of service. The Warehouse enjoys many competitive advantages – one of which is its maximum delivery time of 24 minutes – an achievement that is unparalleled in the industry. It is also the only such operation to provide overnight parking facilities and accommodation for customer staff, whilst demonstrating its customer focus by extending its operating hours, on request, at no additional charge.
The Warehouse, which has already received ISO 9001:2000, ISO 22000:2005 and HACCP certification, is in the process of obtaining ISO 14001 environmental certification as well. The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) practices of the Division have ensured zero time lost. An EHS Committee meets once a month to review standards, whilst workers are given relevant training and safety attire. An open work culture where dialogue is encouraged at all levels has also ensured good industrial relations with staff.
The warehouse achieves greater efficiencies with the concurrent operations of its 27 doors giving it a key competitive advantage. Deliveries are more efficient as waiting time at the loading and unloading bays are significantly reduced. The division is focused on delivering service excellence to ensure the satisfaction of its existing customers while developing new relationships with potential customers.
